“Fuck you!” He said loudly enough to cause most people to turn around and stare at them. Malfoy’s face was contorted in fury as he moved and stood directly in front of Harry. “Today is not a good day to die! Today is in fact, a horrible day to die!” “It’s just a Muggle expression. Draco, I didn’t mean—” But Draco interrupted Harry. “I don’t care what you meant. I didn’t cast my lot with you people simply to die today. I could have done that myself. I could have thrown myself off the nearest cliff the moment I got free, and saved myself all this trouble. And attitudes like yours are precisely what are going to help us lose this war. We can’t fight like today is a good day to die. Because it’s not. Each one of us that dies today means that there is one less wizard fighting on our side. And we can’t just fight like today is a good day to live either, because living like this, in constant fear, sucks. If I had simply wanted to live, I could have stayed where I was and let them mark me. Life is not about living under this constant oppression, life is about living free. So I cast my lot with you,” and this time Draco waved his arm at the crowd that was now listening to him, “because I want to be free to chose my own course of action not have it dictated to me by an overlord. And none of us are going to have that choice if we approach today prepared to sacrifice our lives. My life is worth more than some meaningless death. My life is worth me fighting, for as hard as I can, for as long as I can. My life is worth me surviving any curse or hex that’s thrown my way, even if I have to do it through my own sheer force of will. My life is not worth me giving it up so that you can fight even harder without me and neither are any of yours. So I don’t want to hear anymore talk about dying today, because I simply won’t allow it. None of you have the right to make this any harder on any of us, so there will be no dying on our side today. Do you hear me?” Silence greeted his litany as the hundred faces stared at Draco. Draco’s anger was visible clearly in his face. “Well do you?!” Suddenly a cheer went up around the Great Hall taking Draco completely by surprise. He turned back to Harry who was grinning at him. “I hear you Malfoy.” Harry said smiling.
